HISTORY

The Vancouver Island Caribbean Hub is an Afro-Caribbeanโ€“led community organization headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia โ€” the provinceโ€™s capital city.

Established in 2021, the Hub made its debut with its first large-scale event in 2024, marking a new chapter for Caribbean cultural representation in the region. What began as a small initiative led by just two passionate individuals has now grown into a dynamic team of over 15 members, supported by dozens of volunteers and community partners.

Our team is made up primarily of individuals born and raised in the Caribbean, along with others of Caribbean heritage or descent who have lived in or frequently visit the region. Together, we bring authentic lived experience, deep cultural knowledge, and a shared passion for celebrating and preserving Caribbean identity.

The Hub is proud to be the first organization of its kind in the region, producing large-scale cultural programs and events that highlight the vibrancy of the Caribbean and its diaspora. Through festivals, community projects, and cultural collaborations, we create spaces that connect people, bridge cultures, and amplify Caribbean voices across Vancouver Island and beyond.

Since our inception, weโ€™ve built meaningful partnerships with organizations across Vancouver Island, mainland British Columbia, and Alberta, and are now expanding partnerships nationally, engaging with Caribbean organizations across Canadaโ€™s east.
